A trip to Georgia is simply incomplete without a stop at Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta. This park is over 3,200 acres and has a huge array of different activities for every age imaginable. You can explore a 4-story barn, take a train ride around the mountain, see the Confederate Memorial Carving up close, and even see the world’s largest laser light show! It’s open year-round with all sorts of adventures depending on the season.
The Great Barn® is a children’s favorite! Although it’s mostly for kids between the ages of five and 12, this barn will entertain anyone. It has over 65 interactive games. It even has trampoline floors, climbing structures and super slides! A $9 adult day pass or a $7 child’s day pass gets you in for an unlimited amount of time. This area is also wheel-chair accessible.
For the adventurous, a scenic train ride and The Summit Skyride simply can’t be missed. The Skyride takes you to the very top of the summit onboard a high-speed Swiss cable car. This gives you an unparalleled view of the Confederate Memorial Carving more than 825 feet above ground! From the top you’ll be able to see up to 60 miles away! Round trip tickets cost the same as a trip to the barn and the ride lasts about three minutes. If you aren’t quite as daring, try the awesome train ride on the park’s full-size locomotive. The open-air cars from the 1940s will take you five miles around the mountain. You’ll also learn about the locomotive history connected with Stone Mountain. The ride takes 25-30 minutes and costs $9 for adults and $7 for children 3-11 years-old.
The Lasershow Spectacular has been named the #1 springtime event in Georgia and is the largest of its kind in the entire world! It’s a 40 minute extravaganza featuring lights, graphics and all kinds of music. You’ll recognize tunes from Star Wars, Indiana Jones and even High School Musical. The Flame Cannon Effect and Laser Canopy create your very own ceiling of light! It’s completely unforgettable and it’s topped off with a fireworks finale. The laser show is free with your $8 entrance fee to the park.
If lasers and lightshows aren’t really your thing, feel free to hike, jog and otherwise explore this huge haven of natural beauty. There are also restaurants, hotels and other amenities to ensure a comfortable experience. The Stone Mountain Park is open 365 days a year. Hours are 6 a.m. to midnight daily.
