Exploring Georgia tourism covers a huge variety of different opportunities to learn about what makes Georgia a special place to spend your Georgia vacation.  One of the special places is the Jack Hadley Black History Museum.

The Museum was established to educate individuals about the history and culture of African Americans both locally and nationally.  The African-American historian, James (Jack) Hadley collected over 2000 pieces of artifacts with emphasis on Thomasville's own black achievers.  He also has collected artifacts commemorating the lives and accomplishments from other states and national achievers.

The displays date back to slavery, the Buffalo Soldiers, exhibits on Lt. Henry O. Flipper, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and others.  There are displays of blacks in the military running from the Spanish American War to Desert Storm/Iraq War and the African-American life on the Southern Hunting Plantation.  There are also artifacts on the 1993 Heisman Award Winner, Charles Ward Jr.  There are also displays showcasing black women, the story of Douglass High school and much more.

There are artifacts, documents, books, prints, posters and photos on display on the former campus of Douglass High School which was segregated from 1902 - 1979 and is located in the Dewey City Community.  Hours of operation are Tuesdays - Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm.  It is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Day, New Year's Day.  The admission for this facility is Adults: $5, children to include college students $3.

The whole idea of the museum became a reality because Jack Hadley's son wanted to know why there was such a lack of interest in Black History Week.  Due to this the collection was begun and with the help of other military personnel the first Black History Exhibit was held at Lindsey air Station in Wiesbaden, Germany and at the son's high school.

This organization has developed a Thomasville Black Heritage Trail Tour Guide on the 68 historical sites and places in Thomasville's Black Community. This tour guide is the first Thomasville Black Heritage Tour Guide for Thomasville and is one of the few in Georgia.
