RiverCenter for the Performing Arts Brings Broadway to Broadway in Columbus. The RiverCenter for the Performing Arts brings live Broadway shows, classical music and dance to life on Broadway in Columbus, Georgia. It is one of the state’s premier entertainment venues and hosts a number of touring productions throughout the season.

The RiverCenter for the Performing Arts is the center point for the arts and entertainment district in downtown Columbus. The center’s state of the art facilities include the Bill Heard Theater, the center’s main venue and the home to the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. This main hall is home to symphony concerts, dance performances, Broadway shows, pop concerts, and lectures and conferences.

Many notable celebrities have graced the stage at the Bill Heard Theater since it opened its doors in 2002. Notable classical musicians that have appeared include noted cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Yitzhak Perlman. Popular entertainers to appear include comedian Bill Cosby and magician David Copperfield. The center has hosted numerous Broadway touring shows, including Chicago, Miss Saigon and Cats and recently this past spring an upbeat Tony-award winning musical, A Year with Frog and Toad. This 2,000 seat theater continues to bring quality entertainment to the stage offering the citizens of Columbus world class performances in a state of the art venue.

The RiverCenter is also host to smaller venues for a more intimate entertainment experience. Legacy Hall is a 450 seat theater with orchestra and parterre levels with balconies that wrap around the entire stage. This hall has perfect acoustics and a famous Jordan Concert Organ. It has hosted performances by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and organist Oliver Latry. Everyone who has performed there has praised the superior acoustics and the environment as a quality music hall and performance space.

Legacy Hall and the smaller, Studio Theater, are also prime rehearsal and performance spaces for performing arts students from Columbus State University. The music school of this university has their classrooms, rehearsal rooms and practice rooms located at the RiverCenter, giving students a chance to perform and practice in a world class theater.

The RiverCenter has ongoing Broadway productions and other musical and dramatic events scheduled throughout the year. There is also a full holiday schedule with special Christmas themed performances scheduled around the season.
